My amazing Mississippi radio journey started on April 7, 1999. On my first day in town (after moving to Jackson from West Palm Beach, Florida), I asked my boss, “Where’s the good country food?” He immediately said, “Mama Hamil’s.” At the time, Mama Hamil’s was in a tiny little shack on Highway 51 in Ridgeland. After going through the line, I discovered there was absolutely nowhere to sit. Right away, a sweet elderly couple noticed that I was searching for a seat, they moved over and invited me to sit with them. I knew I was home when they asked if they could say grace before we ate. We all held hands, they prayed, we ate, and the rest is history.
